I noticed these amazing silhouettes in two of my locations, Bedford 1 and Brooklyn 12. They are the work of Art + Commerce photographer Katherine Wolkoff. According to Wikipedia, A silhouette is a view of an object consisting of the outline and a featureless interior, with the silhouetted object usually being black. The term was initially applied in the 18th century to portraits or other pictorial representations cut from thin black card. Despite their quaint provenance, Wolkoff's photographic silhouettes are super contemporary, and would work as well in a modern interior as in a traditional one. Up close, they reveal an unexpected depth of detail.
